AI in the Industry

This report considers how accurate the portrayal of Artificial Intelligence is within Hollywood. It will also question whether the technology depicted on the silver screen is complete science-fiction or if any of the designs and creations are feasible within real life. The report will cover a basic understanding and history of Artificial Intelligence, going into slight detail on; what it is, how it was theorised and where the research began. The different types of Intelligence will then be listed and compared, explaining what each type is used for. It will also go in to detail on the tests an Intelligence must under go in order to be categorised as a certain type of AI based on its abilities. After that the portrayal of Artificial Intelligence in Hollywood will be explained, referencing to two main pieces; “I, Robot” and “2001: A Space Odyssey”, followed by a comparison as to how accurate the pieces are to real life AI. The report will conclude with an explanation on the development of AI research over the previous years and a balanced perspective on whether the research should continue.
